My groundhogboy and myself has a discussion on mid 90's music. And we both noted how intense and angry it was. What the heck has today music? Honestly im really quite bored of a majority of today music, especially rock and rap. I cant believe they even give those wrist cutting pussies guitars(I would be worried they would hang them selves with the strings or something). As for electronic music its be on a steady decline far as versatility and innovation since 2002. Im not saying there are no good bands out today because there are, Brazillian Girls, Booka Shade, Kyto along with numerous other small independant acts. They are just few and far inbetween.



Sometimes I believe people just want to hear more of the same and stopped caring for something different and new. So some of these modern bands may very well be very talented but are afraid of doing new things out of fear of being rejected by the public. I mean the argument can be put forth that bands will do what they want to do reguardless. But that isnt entirely true a band that gets paid to do what they want is much more likely to be experimenting with new ideas than a band thats trying to put foot on the table. And by the time they are able to put food on the table they have already pigeon holed them selves into something the public likes. In fear of loosing their brief moments of stardom and fame they continue to put forth garbage.

I think the problem is that music is a reflection of society and society now-a-days is full of pussies, thus all the music is toned down. There's no rebellion anymore, because society isn't rebellious. Everyone's become cautious and realizes that dissent is highly discouraged. Being critical of anyone or anything is unheard of if you are to prosper.

The money issue is another aspect. A lot of that music was created right before the 90s technology stock boom, when the economy wasn't faring too well. Then it went up and people became complacent. The next time it fell, was right around the beginning of the war on terror. Normally, the same sort of outrage that occurred in the early 90s would have happened, but the war on terror, and with it, war on freedom of speech and public outrage has limited that. So now that dissent is discouraged and people can't get away with disobedience, they're all pussies and emo because life sucks as it is now, but we can't do anything about it. Just my thoughts.

Also, anyone else think that young kids (the teenager-20, 21 crowd, sorry) is so fucked up because of the lifestyles and opulence of the 80s that influenced their parents so much, thereby influencing their parenting skills? I was having this discussion with both barosoap earlier today and with a co-worker last week. Any thoughts?

These bands are created men who sit in an office and where suites. They look at the latest fads and mix them to make these bands (good charlote is a great example. They have no substance. They were makeup and over do it with the goth to the point where it feels fake.



The best band ever created was Temple of the Dog

i dont really have a valid reason as to why this is happening, but i just think it is a generation difference and that we are aging. probably a poor excuse, but it is late and i cant quite think of a full valid reason. i just think the generation that likes those bands are very different from this generation. i mean take a look at mtv. i used to sit up every sunday nite and watch 120 minutes. i have seen about 75% of those bands live b/c of the way it used to be played on mtv. look at mtv today, all it is is crap. take a look at the radio stations in new york. there used to be a great station wlir (wdre). there isnt a station like that except unless you drive out to montauk. the technology is different.

btw great bands, i love joy division, been to ian's grave two times to pay my respects. oh and you left out sex pistols and PIL.

I remember temple of the dog and the song hunger strike. It was a pretty good song.

Its weird how people seem to let themselves be brainwashed into liking unoriginal things in general not just music. Seems like its all based on recognition from others or feeling like your cool if you like what most peolple like. Its a shame most people act like that. Its much more fun to expand your mind with alternative ideas etc.
