Nowadays alot of midi controller keyboards are being released to use with softsynths, however I was wondering if anybody can recommend me one that allows you to set a keyboard split.

Keyboards split divides the keyboard in left and right side, so you can play for example bass sound on the left and strings on the right.

Isn't it also important that each zone transmits on its own midi channel, so that a different VSTi can be played for the left and right side, for example a bass VSTi on the left and for example Atmosphere VSTi on the right?!

I don't know if you can set splits in Cubase SX, but it still seems most logic if you controller can do this, not?! Why do most controller don't seem to have the split feature with independent midi channel for each zone?! After all each VSTi receives on its own midi channel(s), am I correct?

Anyway, are there any midi controllers for VSTi's that do have what I described above?!

You don't need a special controller for that. You can do it software-wise in Cubase.

I've read the article you mentioned, however am I understanding it correct that if you set up a different Note Filter range for track 1 and track 2, ALL the midi notes will still be recorded on BOTH tracks, so they aren't filtered when Cubase records the notes, only when they are output to the VSTi's?! Is that true?!

Is that really the case, I mean, isn't there a way that you have 2 tracks with each there VSTi, and that track 1 only records the data set by its Range Note Filter and track 2 only records the data that needs to go to your second VSTi instead of recording ALL midi notes on both tracks which doesn't make any sense?

Hmm... That's a bit weird. I know I have used the method described in the link in the past, but for some reason I can't seem to get it to work when trying it out right now (it could be, though, that I've changed midi-ports and drivers since then).

Anyway, as I recall, the way it used to work, it didn't record the notes that were filtered off.
(And even if it does in fact record these, it would be fairly easy to apply a logical midi-auto-edit afterwards to remove all notes within a certain range. A little bit extra work - but doable...)

well in reason, you can do as many splits you like...

and as you say for all other software there's nothing easier than zooming out and selecting whole certain range with just about 1 mouse click
