After renting one in Cancun and almost dying, I'm way to scared to rent one again.

scooter is fun for one day
but
if you are going to experience the entire island and party in both San Antonio and Eivissa town (the 2 biggest cities) and you're going to be partying with 2+ friends, then a car is more practical.
it's about a 30min drive between the two cities and you don't want to be riding on a bike in the wind after a night of heavy partying/drinking
also
i think most of the cars are stick/manual.
good luck!
