i was just about to post this same thread but i saw this... currently my dj crew just uses about a 300w stereo receiver amp (from a home stereo system) and we have 2 150w speakers but they are basically blown. its cheap stuff.. but i want some shit for myself.. we haven't spun outdoors but i need enough power to fill up a big house or even bars.. cos sometimes we play at a bar that doesnt' have a pa system.. but i guess it would be good to have that 500w amp and 300w speakers.. what are some good brands and some prices? and im looking to spend as little as possible cos im about to empty my wallet on a new mixer..

Yeah, but if you bridge then you only get mono. And you can't bridge into anything less than 8 ohms usually.
Best thing to do, (if you can afford it) is to get two amps; one at about 500 per side at 4 ohms for the bass and one at about 300 per side for the mids and highs. You then want an active crossover between the mixer and the amps to separate the frequencies.
Speaker-wise, you'll want perhaps 4x15" drivers for the bass, either paired or in separate cabs. You'll want to run 2 drivers off each channel, in parallel. drivers should be rated at 300W 8 ohm impedance each, ideally.
For the mids/highs you want 2x12" and 2x8" at 150W 8 ohm each. Again, these should be in parallel.
Put all this together and you should have a pretty decent system for an outdoor party for up to 100 people, probably.
