Which Processor is good lately?

So i am thinking of buying an allround new pc . Willing to spend around 700-900 euro depends on where i buy it.

It has been 2 years since i got my current one pent 4 2.8 gighz. Time for a new one imo

Anyway, i noticed that this pc is still not strong enough to do anything you want if it comes to music. I actually wanne work without having anything in mind about cpu limitations.

I have seen this new Duel core thing of pentium. Anyone know if this processor is good and heavy enough? Or maybe you have some other stuff to recommend?

the new Core 2 Duo are the one to go at the moment.. they blow everything else away. especially the ones with 4MB L2 cache (6600, 6700 and 6800)

with 4mb you mean 2x 2mb?

afaik both cores share one 4MB L2 cache and it's not splited like on the amd x2 cpus.
