before it only happened a lil' near the end of my mixes, i assumed cuz RAM was low, but after installing 512mb more.. its pretty fast, but what can i do about this freezing???
its not like my hard drives are full or anything... arghh!!
please somebody help me |
First of all, although its obvious, but make sure your bus speeds are compatible. Even though the PC133s will drop to 100 if thats your bus speed, i'd personally still change it. I imagine you have 2 256 RAM chips in there, which usually come in PC133Mhz.
One major mis-judgement people get is, the more RAM, the better.... but it can actually backfire. More RAM is great to an extent, more isn't always better. 512 is ok, but if I were you, i'd drop down to 384......I run programs left and right, listening to music while I am on here is almost standard, and I run everything else while doin it, whether it be games, photo editing, etc........
Perhaps you have a Dell? If ya do, take your chips back, and go get some RK-Bytes......Dell comps can be picky when it comes to types of RAM.......
Don't worry, that "pausing lag" isnt permanent (its annoying as hell, I've seen it before), you just gotta find the right chips.
Also, I'd recommend getting a "free up RAM" program (some people don't like them, but they are useful).........they are free all over the net......once your RAM gets low (which it does, I don't care how much RAM you have, if its below 1 gig, your comp will get laggy eventually) it'll free up that used RAM up and give it back to ya......cuz just closing a program doesn't mean you free'd it all up. You'll find yourself not having to reboot for atleast a week.......
Anyway, hope some of the advice helped.......
