Why would you want to convert an MP3 into a WAV? You don't gain anything in the process....it's a waste of time and HD space. This is pretty common knowledge around here.

If you were producing, some sequencers don't support MP3, it's not ideal as should always try and and get a wav from the orignal source but that could be a reason.

Actually there is small gain. MP3s have the smallest amount of muted audio at either end of the tracks, so if you are burning a cut up mix cd using track-at-once, you'll get a very small gap in between tracks.

Never noticed that, well I haven't cut up a mix nor do I use track-at-once...use disc-at once. But I mean as far as sound quality, I mean once you have the audio compressed as an MP3..like an MP3 you bought on a digital download shop, and you convert that to a WAV, the file size might be bigger, but your not neccessarily getting that information back that was taken out during compression (and with a higher bit-rate file, not as much information is taken out...like a 320 Kbps MP3). I mean I used to convert MP3s to WAVs before, thinking I was, but then I realized it was a waste of time and HD space, because I compared them, and they sounded exactly the same.

Question...why would you want to use track-at once though?, isn't it disc-at once that you want when burning a mix CD...to eliminate gaps. You can do that also by clicking on the track (like in Nero) and changing the 2 second pause in between tracks to 0, or just press crossfade. I mean maybe i'm missing something...not quite sure about a cut up mix...i'm thinking of a mix just cut up into individual tracks...like making a cue-file.

I'm completely aware that converting to waves gives you no better audio than your original mp3. It's just like downloading an mp3 at 128 and re-encoding it as 256 or whatever.. a complete waste of time.

And as far as I've come, I never been able to use disc at once in nero with the cds I've bought (I think disc at once just gets rids of the 2 seconds you wait before the first track and that's it). So I use track at once for every other track on the cd and the mix comes out perfect (if I'm using waves). Of course my mp3s might just have the tiny gap on either end becasue of the mp3 encoder I've been using all these years... lol.

I think you just put disc at once then select all tracks, properties and change second interval from 2 to 0. This works with wavs or mp3's with no gap whatsoever
