id put it down to a bad bass pattern

if my track doesnt have that drive, id scrap it and start all over again, but then again i only really produce hard dance so its hard to have a weak bassline yer?

So you added more bass tracks to make it more drivy?

Listen, more is not better, better is better.

I'd say you should mute one channel at the time and listen if the groove changes. Because sometimes there might just be a rhythm in the percs, sequences etc that slows it down. I tend to do this once in a while.

I don't 3 basslines is really that great of an idea. The mix is probably going to get cluttered too easily, especially since you still need a few pads, some lead synths, some samples and all that. I'd say mute each bassline and then turn them back on 1 by 1 and see which fits the track best. Personally I think the rolling bassline should be a little different. That KbBb pattern I don't think fits the track all that well. The track has a nice dreamy feel to it right now though. I don't think it really needs a huge drive maybe some funky percs would do though.

i just cant get basses right. been trying everything under the sun to get a good bass and i still cant do it. i dont no whats going wrong with them, whether its the sound itself, the pattern or what. ifi could get my bass right my tracks would move up to a new level.

Barry try experimenting with some new sounds. Mess around with some random patches and just go with it. Get on msn sometime soon.

Cut out one of the bass patterns. Your main problem is that you're muddying up your low end, not that you have no drive. You think you haven't created drive, but you have. It's in your hats.

So make your low end tighter, maybe also delay your high end and mid range a millisecond or so to make your bass push the higher frequencies a bit. This last one is a trick that BT uses in somnambulist to push the song along. That's why it sounds faster than it really is.

thoughtlessjex: how would you go about making your low end tighter? what effect should be applied to do that? just a multiband compressor?

as somone mentioned earlier, the pattern isn't a "drive" pattern. having the bass hit on the off beat doesn't drive it bounces...

listen to psy trance bls....straight 16th notes...that's drive...although I don't think that's what you want for this one...

although listen to some deep voices tracks.....they've got that sexy but driving clean trance bassline down....

i think it's like a 16th note pattern with the first two 16th at low velocity, the third a little higher, and the forth one pretty hard...

makes the intensity rise and fall with one beat!

although, as someone else said earlier, this track is dreamy and nice. and actually quite dancable....so i might leave well enough alone with the pattern and use that 16th technique on the next tune...

cheers.
