Minaya-Late Nights Volume 3..Nick Warren, Steve Porter, Air
I decided it would be nice to not only close the summer with a State of Muzik mix for August but also a Late Nights mix since its been awhile.
The last two Late Nights were about experimenting and more about finding out what I wanted the sound for these mixes to be. I think with this third installment I finally have more of an understanding about the idea and sound I want which would be cool yet calm.
Starting off the mix is an amazing ambient track by Air. Its called Alone in Kyoto and I first heard this while watching Lost in Translation and immedietly wanted to use it in a mix. I originally wanted it to be the intro for Self Painting 2 and it probably will be but I felt like its long overdue for use in a mix.
To really kick things off I used a great remix by Hawk of a very beautiful tracked titled So Serene by Mark Otten. The breakdown and overall sound was perfect for this mix and even though its a little old I feel it wont show.
Next up is more of that cool yet calm sound I was talking about. Nick Warrens remix of Kenneth Thomas's guitar driven Orange Room. Enough energy you could pitch this up and get people moving or slow it down and start off your set right. Great track I really enjoyed finally using this.
The following track is a remake of an old Billie Ray Martin song called Your Loving Arms. I heard Armin use this to open up his ASOT awhile back and fell in love with it. Smooth vocals and great percussion make this track a main stay in alot of DJ's mixes. Most recently and notably used in Tiesto's ISOS 5 cd.
Definite Form I've loved since hearing Sasha use it in his WMC 2003 set but never found a set it could mesh well with because I really wanted it to stand out a bit. I hope you love it = )
I was just mixing this Late Nights when my friend Tim G. had his weekly radio show on and was taking a listen and heard his remix for Remember Me. I knew once I heard it I had to have it in this mix and so I restarted it just to add this track in. Great vocals and overall feel to it I know this will become a favorite for many.
Although an old trance classic this song is what sparked my interest in doing a new Late Nights mix. I was listening to ATB's Nature One set and he opened with it and I still cant believe I forgot about this one. Dreamy, beautiful and just a great trance track that could live on forever.
Next is a song I heard in Oakenfolds last decent mix cd Creamfields. Amazing piano and ambient feel to this song. If this cant relax you im just not sure what would =)
Finally we come to close and I reach back to 1983 to pull out a song that you probably know better as Watergate-Heart of Asia. Its unfortunate most dont know the original because its beautiful and very serene. Im lucky enough to have an original pressing on vinyl as well. Enjoy one of my favorite songs of all time
Hope your able to relax and enjoy this one while summer comes to an end. (Link in the title as usual)
