Sample madness!

Today I thought I would take a random free sitar sample -- the second one down the list on the right side of this page, if you are curious -- and try to make a whole song using the sample, a few percussion samples, and effects. Here is the result so far:

I found that it's a good exercise in creativity to try to squeeze as many different sounds as you can out of just one sample. Here is a clip of the sample played dry, followed by the different sounds I got out of it:

I used Audacity to isolate certain parts of the sample for some sounds, and Reason for everything else.

Have any of you guys tried this before?

I hadn't really messed around with sampling much before, but it opens up some really neat possibilities. I put a reverb on a violin sample, set the decay really high, saved a note playing, then used a sound editor to cut out everything but the reverby part. It left me with this sound:

I did a similar thing with a trombone sample, and added a bit of distortion. Sounds pretty cool, I think:

Is that a compliment, or a diagnosis?

I've never been keen on the sound of a sitar, but the violin and trombone effects sound very warm and immersive. Like the texture a lot.

I added some more octaves to the violin sound to make it "bigger":
