is it safe to use a 2 RCA male ---> 3.5mm stereo female adaptor so i can use my laptop speakers with the mixer?

so basically, it's a RCA--->3.5mm stereo conversion...how will the sound quality be (for bedroom use)? and are there any precautions to take? i know many companies will manufacture these adaptors, so how do you find which one to trust?

If you are using cheap speakers you probably wouldnt even notice the small loss of quality.

You should be fine, just don't blow em.

Eheh. I sort of have a similar setup.

I don't have any decent speakers of any kind (recommendations?), so I have RCA -> 3.5mm stereo into 'Line In' on my laptop, and stereo speakers connected to the stereo/headphone out.

It's nice because I can record my mix that way, but I really do need better speakers.

How much money are you looking to spend for speakers in the future?

No set budget yet, but I have a feeling good speakers will start at ~$500 USD for a pair.

Trying to find something that will be enough for house parties at least. Not too worried about them having a flat curve (for producing and all) since I'm pretty terrible at producing, but I have a feeling that I'll regret not getting them when I start attempting to produce.

I'd say something around 300-500 or so, but not necessarily strictly within those bounds.

hehe. Yeah, I kind of realized I am.

I think a pair of Rokit RP8's are around $500. Would that be enough to 'fill' a medium sized living room, though?

I ran one party off of some 2.1 computer speakers (same place) and it was okay I think... (but this was during finals week so attendance was below average).

I recall another thread about using monitors for a house party; is it safe/sane/a good idea to do so? I have very limited experiences with speakers.

you could use studio monitors just fine as long as you're not an idiot ( or one of your friends ) who cranks the level till it starts saturating ....

You could try and buy a cheap set like this:
Nady MPM-8175/PS PA Package 449$ ( down from 907$ list price )

Yamaha STAGEPAS 300 Portable PA System 549$

There aren't great but they'll be some of the best stuff you can get for the budget you are on.

If I can get by with studio monitors (Rokit RP6 or 8's - thoughts?) for small/medium sized house parties, then I think I'd rather get those over a 'PA type' setup.

Thanks for all of your help so far. =) I really appreciate it.
