Sound Setup?

Cant get my setup to sound right, Ive just got some KRK RP8 I am unsure on want to set the volume at and the HF adjustment to.

When i am mixing and ive got two tracks playing it sounds like there is to much happing going on.

I have my mids and lows at centre 12 o clock and high at 3 o clock.

Any one got any tips?

Sounds bit newbie

Thats because there probably is too much going on. Try keeping the highs a bit lower (at 11 o'clock or so) along with the mids. When you mix in, turn one set of highs to full while turning the other set of highs to 11 o'clock (if not a little more). If you do this at transition points, it will sound good.

yea i understand that, what dont sound rite is u cant hear the beats clashing together much, u can hear it if I turn the volume down low. I am thinking it might be somthing to do with my room and having the volume high!

Thx

Could be a lot of things. Sometimes even the song itself isn't EQ'ed right at "normal" settings so you might have to fix it on the mixer by doing something weird like having the high's at 2 O'clock and the mids at 12 O'clock. I dunno, just an example.

I noticed that the way my room is setup and me having the speakers on the floor, once I step about 5 feet away the rumbling of the bass is non-existant and all I can hear is the thump. And I mean the thump of what you can only hear in a lot of recorded live sets. So it could just be the placement of your speakers like in my situation.

move one speaker further away, sound waves will cancell themselves out if they hit you your ears at the exact sime time and phase.

No, waves constructively interfere when they're the same time and phase. They don't cancel. But you're right it might have something to do with the placement. Ideally you would have them elevated on stands equidistant from your ears and at the same angle.

If you mix with the bass at 3 o'clock you need to turn that down to at least normal like 12 o'clock, but you should be probably introducing your tracks with a bass cut so more like 9 o'clock.

It probably has something to do with your room dude. I don't have proper monitors, but when i turn my sound system right up, it sounds messed up. Not because of the sound system clipping, more just the room itself I think.

AT certain volumes, the acoustics of the room come into play, I think because hte sound waves are of sufficient amplitude to bounce off the walls very cleanly. if the shape and the material of the room just isn't right you've got to sorted acoustically-wise to play at such volumes.

If it's an acoustics problem, try sorting it out via placement as well. Possible even try placing them further or closer apart, or in different areas of ur room.
