Starter Kit?

i was wondering if getting 2 Technics SL-DZ1200 and a Technics SH-MZ1200 mixer would be a reasonable starter setup. as im only 16 i want something cheap but reasonable decks. i want them to be able to last me until i get a real job. thnx

There's been lot of problems with that Technics CDJ, your best bet is with Pioneer or Denon as far as CDJ are concerned. Something like the CDJ 200 or CDJ 800 MK2 from Pioneer, or from Denon..the DNS-3500. For mixers, something like an Ecler Nuo 2 or Nuo 3 should work, a DJM 300 or 400 from Pioneer, or a Numark DXM-06 or 09. Perhaps check out some from Vestax, like the VMC-004, and or a used PCV-275, though it is a bit dated (have one, getting an Ecler Nuo 3 or Nuo 4 for Christmas).

Industry standard you mean? Yes Pioneer are the industry standard for CDJs, but Denons are also used too. But i'de recommend Pionner as far as CDJs go, so would other people on here.

Cool, talk to Miamitranceman, that is the exact setup he has. I'de test out all of this equipment first, like at a store that sells DJ equipment. I wouldn't order thist stuff without knowing this is the exact thing you want, and you get the feel of it that way.

CDJ-800s are a good choice. You may want to check out the Ecler Nuo3 in addition to the DJM-400. Personally, I would prefer the Ecler. Your CD players and your mixer don't have to be the same brand.

Industry standard just means alot of professional setups use them. As for as industry standard for cd players go most people will tell you pio cdj800 or 1000s.
The djm line of mixers are popular in clubs but for a bedroom setup I would rather get the new vestax vmc-004 with effects.

i think cause tiesto uses pioneer which makes them popular cause everyone wants to be like tiestorr xD

i dunno, looks wise i like the djm800 over the Ecler Nuo3 and its 4 channel, could come in handy if i upgrade or something in the long future =p

The DJM 800 is overkill, you will save a ton of money getting an Ecler Nuo 4. It might not be a truly digital mixer like DJM 800 is, but it still has decent sound quality and 4 channels and can also be used as a MIDI controller, like for Ableton. You'd be saving almost $1,000 getting an Ecler vs. a DJM 800. It's just way more than you will ever need...

For just two CD decks the DJM-800 might be a bit too much to start out with, as was already stated. That's a lot of cash!

Also, don't run out to guitar center or something and buy your gear. There's a lot of haggle room for this stuff... so don't pay retail prices!
