What are the legal issues surrounding web broadcasts?

Is it possibble to buy a domain, and stream a radio show from it?

Is this legal, and are there any liscenses that would need to be purchased?

Thanks in advance!

There's a word that sums up this sort of behaviour, and that word is 'reject.'

do first, ask questions later. If its not legal then blame it on MTV. but everybody else i know just does it.

This is dependent on the geographical location where you are situated and local copyright law.

Recently John Digweeds podcast had to stop due to the licensing issues; due to MCPS-PRS issueing a podcast license ( more info here http://www.openrightsgroup.org/orgw...dex.php/Podcast ).

More specifically I suggest you see with http://www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk/broadcasting/ under the tab Radio services and check out the official rules and services as set by them. I haven't checked any of this in detail but I'm just pointing you in the general direction.

On the other hand .... do whatever you want but be aware that when the exposure grows you will have to go by the rules and shouldn't be amazed if things fall back on you

Keep in mind that a website hosted in a foreign country means you don't fall under your local rules( DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THE ACCURACY OF THAT STATEMENT! ), but that is debatable and also depends on how much your local music copyright organization is willing to put pressure on you and find loopholes to nab you.

There is def some sort of licensing you need to pay to broadcast anything. It's diffrent for where you are.
