How did you decide on where to camp? You were oviously following a set trail, so were their designated camping areas?
I have never been real camping, and I have always just wanted to walk out into the woods and set up a place, rather than going where I am told to go. |
We got a camping permit for the area ($5) and then looked at trail maps to decide where to go. Keith has been to King's Lake before so he knew the trail well enough and it is pretty distinct. It was a bit of a challenge - we climbed at least 1000 feet in the process! For areas to camp, some sites in the Wilderness Area are designated but we just picked a spot with some shelter (the brush trees) and a nice flat, semi-soft patch of grass. Camping on an open plain is not a great idea - especially with the winds getting as fast as they do up at those elevations.
It looks like we might head out again this weekend and enjoy more of the nice weather here (70 by day, 35-40 by night) and cloudless. It was 15 miles round trip with each of us carrying around 25-35 lbs on our backs. In short, my ass hurts! lol
