The new iTunes 7 and what it means for us

Let me start of by saying our endless emails and requests to apple to have gapless playback has now been answered, today on September 12, 2006. If you havent checkout the new iTunes 7, i suggest you check it out at apple.com .

The new iTunes 7 now supports gapless playbacks! No more 2 second skips on your iPod, no more 80 minute continuously mixed track (but separated tracks with gapless playbacks). This is HUGE for Electronic Dance Music since most of the things we listen to are continuously mixed! Like those livesets, those radio sets, those albums, etc._

I wanted to know what you predict will change in how we listen to music and how it will change "the SCENE". I know there are a lot of you sceners that browse this forum and I hope this post can reach out to you and how you release music. Perhaps ripping albums as single tracks instead of one big mp3 file with a cue.

I want to know what you think about this new milestone in listening to EDM.

Personally, I cant wait for the day we can listen to Armin's A State Of Trance Radio Show as single tracks on my ipod without worying about the 2second skip, continuously for 2 hours. :-)

Could you please explain to me how the ipod eliminates those gaps? I'm a technology nut and love learning about new innovations which in this case involves the mp3 format.

Keep in mind the MP3 format doesn't support gaplessness.

Is it really gapless or does it just crossfade between tracks?

its gapless, you have to try it to believe it... feels like those cd playbacks. i now discovered that if the tracks are encoded in VBR there will be a slight click.

And by the way, this is not a "milestone" in the way we listen to EDM. The scene does not revolve around iPods.

Yeah, I agree about the "milestone" thing being a little too much...

...but I have to say that it really is a good thing since I know a bunch of EDM lovers that fucking hate having to rip mixed cds as a huge mp3 file...and this will certainly be huge for them

I read this with great hopes and went immediately to download the new iTunes.

All I can find under the playback options in iTunes is the option to crossfade, with the minimum segment of time being set to 1 second.

Am I missing something? As it stands this new feature is more useless than the very small gap that we used to get, which although annoying, was infinitely better than the mini train wreck we're now exposed to on every track.

I hope someone points out to me that I've missed an important setting......
