It sucks! Pretty damn hard especially for a relatively shy kid like myself. (though not lately) I don't have many friends that like the whole clubbing scene (they'd rather stay in) and the ones who do, either don't have the money or time, having to do a boxing match or a modelling show whatever the hell it is. (however when they have the time, it's perfect, cause they are pretty outgoing) (So basically I can't get known in the scene yet, because I have no one to really go and clubbing with...so I can't meet promoters out in the real workd, and my face is still unknown)

So I'm alone. I gave my # to my very first promoter a week ago (gave him a cd a week before THAT), but he said the owner made the decisions, but I haven't been at that job site for the last week, so I don't know if the promoter lost my number or what. I was thinking of going down to the building, and asking him whatsup. This whole getting out there thing is so damn hard.

I admit in the beginning, I might have wanted some fame, but now it's just the fa ct that lately I have purchased so many eargasm causing music, I jjuust want to blast it for some poeple on a loud clubsystem.

Problem is i'm very lazy/unmotivated. I need to kick my ass into gear or something. I emailed a big club (2-4k capacity) for a quote, becuase I'm FINALLY thinking of just hosting my own night and getting my name out from there. But that's going to be hella expensive, especially if I do it often and more than once.

It's true, everyone and his mother's a DJ.

EDIT: and also, I visit the record shop frequently where a lot of top local resident DJs go/work...but you can't really go up to them either, because they know youre agenda, whether you're nice about it or not, they know that you want to use them to get gigs.

get an online show and pass out fliers for it. Or just keep making demo cds and pass em out.

and when you smooze other dj's n stuff dont talk about how you wanna dj, talk about releases or other djs, or how kick ass their set was. Become their friend first, then they will offer up opening spots, or a closing spot when they come up.


also get a gathering of people that actually will go see you. That way when you actually do get a night, the promoter will see that you can bring in a few people, and hopefully make a few stay.




and if that all fails, bang a famous djs sister, then you can play anywhere.

Anyawys, yea good advice, I certainly know I'll have a quite a few show up, when I do get a bigger gig. For example my next gig was supposed to be this month (september) 300 + crowd I think

but it got moved to October 19th. But it's just a boxing show. So not really a CLUB night.

That's how I did it. I showed up at as many small parties I could to show the promoter that I was supportive, I took photos and uploaded them (because nobody around here takes many photos of parties), and I also helped flyer for their largest show of the year. I ended up randomnly asking if they were accepting demos and they said yeah, and that's how I ended up with my first gig last night.

what boomer said. don't go over and ask for a gig. talk about the main thing: MUSIC. give em a track or two even, see if he recommends back. one thing that got me good with a lot of DJs was when i could ID 80% of their sets. they ended up pretty interested in what tracks i had myself afterwards.

if they look at you as a music guru before you've spun, then they'll be pretty interested in listening to your set.

my current promotion problem is that i have promtoers that WANT me to play, but none of them ****s want to pay. due to new laws, clubbing has been restricted - till 2:00AM only, so all the clubs are making very little money. somehow, promoters still expect me to play for free, just cuz their club isn't making as much money as it used to. i've done it a couple times already, and if i have nothing better to do, i might accept; but tonight for instance, none of my friends were going to this particular club, so i had no ride... i sure as hell am not going to PAY a cab to play in a club for free.
