so i think im just about ready to ditch my car.......
i've had it.
accidents, speeding tickets (obviously my own fault, but bad luck), car payments, gas, maintenence... it's all pissing me off. costs me over $1000/month when i consider all expenses, and i'm starting to think of selling it.
now heres the question.... can i do this without causing a different kind of headache all together? my day job is in etobicoke, my weekend gig is downtown, so i guess i need to find a place somewhat neutral. i also have NEVER taken the TTC or subway, so i dont know what routes happen very frequently.
does anyone else do a commute out to etobicoke by streetcar/bus, and if so is it that big of a pain in the ass?
Depends where in Etobicoke but for sure you can do it. Certainly downtown is easy to get to from anywhere and you know that you have a couple of bases that you can use.
Looks like you are out by the airport which IS a bitch to get to - live at St George/Spadina and Sub out to Kipling... Bus then to airport.

Jeff,
Get a place close to the subway route and you will never need a car. You're too corrupted by your hicksville up bringing. As much as TTC is agrevating at times it will save you lots of money and in your case stress.

129 Carlingview Drive to be precise.....

Re: so i think im just about ready to ditch my car.......
Some long distances are very easy to travel, others are a pain in the ass just because of the route and frequency of transit service.
I work on the border of Mississauga and Etobicoke and from college and bathurst it takes me about an hour to get to work.
If you're at 129 Carlingview you're relatively near me actually, so if you were travelling from around where i live, it would take about the same amt of time.. I would look into Mississauga transit routes - there are some express ones like the 27, 50, 17 and 57 that run from Islington out to that area. It requires extra fare but it's convenient to be able to get the bus from inside the islington bus terminal.
There may be a TTC route that's more convenient though, if you're east of the 427.

Jeff, looking at the full TTC system map (which includes Miss transit routes) it looks like the 112C goes out there....that has frequent service from Kipling and I don't think would require extra fare.
I thought the #57 (Miss transit) might go out there but it goes west of the airport. However, the #11 appears to go out there from Islington.
I think it's a great idea to ditch your car. For every girl who thinks having a car is a necessary requirement, there are 5 girls who would rather you have an extra $1000 a month floating around.

Yea I do. Where exactly would you be going from/to?
The Kipling and Islington buses run every 10 minutes during rush hour; with the Islington bus also being a 24 hour bus. There's also a 24 hour streetcar line on Queen/Lakeshore if you'd be in the south-west end. This area is pretty well connected as far as transit goes
