Dunno cabinet speaker Vs home audio speakers?

Hi guys,
I'm looking into getting some speakers and was wondering if anyone could help me out.
What's the difference between a cabinet speaker and a normal home audio floor standing speaker?

Well it depends on what you are using them for. If youre just using them for home listening and not for partys then the home speakers will be more than enough.

I own a pair of the truths, despite what people think of Behringer products, this is a great bang for the buck! Totally love these monitors!

Personaly i would get the pro ones. Just because they can take more abuse, are going to be louder and easier to transport. Think about what you might be getting into in the future.

If you do go the pro route check this series from JBL out...

These are self powered speakers(they have the amps straped to the back of em. Ive listened to these and the sounds amazing even when cranked.

high end hifi speakers sound much better than pro audio speakers
it depends on the speaker if they have lot of bass or not, but for home use its more than enough, you can also buy a active subwoofer if your speakers don't produce enough bass

If you like to, light your pipe, put you feet up in a relaxing way and listen to you favorite track, I would definitely recommend you go with the home audio stuff.
If you, on the other hand, like to experiment with producing your own material, play live mixes or will be moving them often, then definitely go with the cabinets. It is more rugged, will handle transients, clips, bursts etc much better without causing damage. They also sound better in a room full of people because of the massive horns they often come with. Add a crossover and sub-cabinet and you have a kick-ass system. I've had a pair of yamaha's S112IV for the last 8 years, and they still sound like they did the day I baught them. Mind you I also had to get smaller near-field monitors for alot of my producing as the big yammies will kill your eardrums after awhile that close to them.

thanks for the help guys
yeah, it's for home use, hehe
I just wanted something really damn loud but something that doesnt sound too crappy. I think I'll go for the home audio solution. Those Bi-amped jbls look really nice though.

thanks
Greg

at home you don't need a huge system with tenthousand watts

i have these minuscule yamaha speakers (for home theater use) i have 2 of them at each side
they are 30watt, supported with a home theater subwoofer it is allready way to loud for my little room

problem is, i don't have a subwoofer yet, but i don't really need one for the moment

Yeah I had some Yamahas and they were 12'' ones, and they were LOUD, much too loud. Now I have KRK RP8s, and they are loud too, but I wouldn't say they are so loud that they carry. I'de look into either the Behringer Truth's or the KRK RP5s, 6s or 8s, or even the M-Audio BX8s. Unless you are planning to do house parties, don't get big, concert style speakers for home use.
