9/11 - 2006 Memorial Thread

On September 11, 2001, four U.S. planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people in a matter of hours.

Today, 5 years later, we pay tribute to those who lost their lives.

Out of respect for those who died - please keep this thread free of partisan political commentary, anti-American sentiment, conspiracy theories, etc.

Yes, Thank you for making this thread RJ.

It's a tough day in my house when September llth comes around. I lost my Uncle in one building, and his wife to be in the second tower. And my bestfriend lost her dad.

IT's truly a day to think about and remember the people and what happened. It may have taken family and friends away, but it bonded people as well in the process. I remember being in History class when I heard about this.

Does everyone still remember where they were when they heard about this?

In my car and about to go to school...turned on the radio...heard about the chaos in NYC...

Went back to the house - turned on the t.v., saw the horror...

I was sad, I prayed...didn't end up going to school and stayed at home.

...had just landed at heathrow coming back from ibiza and the airport was just being locked down. (i was supposed to have been working in Durban/ S-Africa at the UN World Conference Against Racism - which the US ironically boycotted!!; the conference ended 2 days early b/c of this). came home and turned on the tv thinking it was a joke or another version of die hard II. nonetheless, needless to say, - to this day - it is shocking & unbelievable. i will refrain from any other comments ... just makes me so mad & sad.

R.I.P. to those who lost their lives & bless those who have lost their loved ones.

I'll never forget that morning. It seems all of Bay St. stood still, stock brokers, bankers, lawyers, retail sales people, janitors, fast food cooks... anybody you could imagine, jammed into the little coffee shop in the basement of 105 Adelaide (where I worked at the time) sitting in stunned silence watching the events unfold on CNN. Without question it was the single most profound experience I can recall having with a group of strangers. It wasn't just the horror of seeing all those people jumping from the buildings, imagining the suffering of those trapped inside, or even knowing the tragically sensless loss of lives we all witnessed as the towers fell.... it was all those things but in addition a realization that we had just witnessed an event that would change the world forever, the knowledge that we would never again feel truely secure.

i was just getting ready for my 9-5 shift at the first moores store i worked at (in brantford), walked in with my coffee and heard on the radio a plane accidently flew into the WTC. i knew the second i heard it there was no way it was an accident. all three of us in the store sat on the cashdesk and listened to everything unfold.

i think about four customers in total entered the store the whole day, those who did come in had no clue what was going on. when they found out - they just turned for the door and left. i finished the day selling $29.99 total (one tie).

I got my ass to class that morning for an 9:30 class. I lived in rez so pretty much crawled out of bed and zombied it over to the other building. The prof announced the news to us. I didn't understand what he was saying really because he knew nothing about it. Just about some problems with planes and New York. I then was glued to the TV after that. My roomates and I were all freaking out. Man, the whole university gathered around any possible TVs brodcasting the news.

RIP to all those that lost their lives trying to save others. That was most tragic.
