Ya... it's necessary to set up a few different configuration scenarios with the current setup - so that way you have a baseline to figure out what's faster and what's not...
The newer version of the forums has new features but scales horribly and is notorious for bringing forums to a crawl with the way search is setup...which is why you'll be hard pressed to find any vBulletin forum in the top 75 with Search active for non-logged in users (TA is #54 or so)
