Dunno Sony MZ-RH1 Hi-MD Walkman MiniDisc/MP3 Digital Music Player

Sony MZ-RH1
Hi-MD Walkman MiniDisc/MP3 Digital Music Player

Does anybody know if this MiniDisc player can record live music.

I was hoping in purchasing this player so I can record DJ sets whenever I go to a party.

If you happen to own one of these feel free to leave feedback about this device.

Usually on the Minidisc Player/Recorder you will have 2 options to be able to record the music to. the most common one would be Optical. So you will need an Optical cable. I had one included in my minidisc box, so more the likely you will have one with yours.

Connect the optical lead from your Minidisc recorder to the source of the music, whether it be from CD player, Radio/DAB, etc. To be able to record live DJ sets there are usually loads of optical connections to the music source via Amp, mixer, etc... these are ways to connect your MiniDisc player/recorder to.

Hope this helps!

well the problem is i won't be able to hook it up to any dj system. i want to use this md player as a recording device where i can stick it in my pocket and record the music the dj is playing. correct me if i'm wrong but i believe this minidisc recorder has a built in mic.

If it has a mic then you will be able to record it no problems what so ever.

BUT....

The sound quality might not be that great, but i could be wrong. I havent really looked into Minidisc players/recorders for a while.

You might be interested in this link i found with full specs and information.

wow MD players are still around? I haven't used mine in ages. Anyways, from what I last remember, there was no built in mic within the mp3 player. Case in point if you're recording with a lead in and the mic picks up background noise so this leads me to believe there is no built in mic, it'll interfere with any recording you do.

I've used the MD to record live sets but none of them were any good quality to share, strictly for personal listening pleasure. If you want to record with a mic, I suggest you go out and buy a mic attachment.

if the sound quality is not good then its not worth it to get a md.

maybe i'm confused but to me it seems like what you're trying to achieve is something that has already been tried and tested.

i'm guessing you want to carry this MD/recording device into a party and stand in the crowd and record the set. You'll have a poor sound with a lot of background noise, i've tried it believe me. Plus some of the lows in the bass might end up clipping during recording.

Now if you're recording with a line into the MD, I suggest using an optical connection. Mic recording leaves much to be desired and won't give you the best sound quality for live sets

yea i'd stray away from the whole mic recording thing, it isn't nearly as good as you would imagine.
