i mean.. i mixed on random headphones for about 5 yrs on and off just a hobby thing.. it really depends on if youre trying to make this something you want to try n take to the next level (theres a great deal of luck involved in addition to knowing how the hell to do it right haha )
truthfully, you cannot match the best headphones to decent monitors but theres no reason you cant buy a nice pair of production headphones - its certainly cheaper. i myself was in this situation a couple months back. i used to just use reason 1.0! period. now i have my ozone midi alesis m1active 620s and reason 3.0.. will be gettin cubase sx 3 soon as well..
FL is very popular and there r plenty of people who produce with it. if you are doing it for enjoyment, why not just stick with what u have.. you know it already so whats the point of relearning it all over again. However, if you are trying to take it somewhere, i would suggest investing in some more powerful DAWs.
in order of importance (this is a really tough thing to decide..) i would probably say monitors first.. u cant mix properly without them (or production phones) then progs/DAWs then midi n whatever else u want. monitors/progs for u r kinda hand in hand though because youre using fl so there might be a want for a more powerful prog.
ill tell u this, there are many more producers who produce on monitors than phones. not that it cant be done, but phones cannot reproduce in as fine detail the same things monitors can. maybe if you compared sick phones to shitty monitors then maybe its kinda comparable but assuming youre willing to shell out a lil extra i woudl go with monitors.. theyre loud though so keep that in mind and with monitors comes issues with acoustics.. issues that r well worth the end result of mixing on monitors though. so choose wisely.
how much $$$ are you willing to shell out (ps check on some threads.. i had one i started a couple months back about this myself)
