mine just arrived today - however no feedback from them yet as a still need the correct cable to connect them from my new djm400 mixer

First thoughts - they are heavy little ******s for there size and build quality looks spot on.

I will be using them in my student gaff i.e small room too - should do the job

I own the Genelec 8040A's and I produce in a rather small studio as well. I wouldn't recommend getting anything smaller than the 8040s. If you can't afford to spend more (and that's a fair point) then I would recommend spending your money on some monitors where you get a little more "speaker" for the money and a little less "brand".

Don't get me wrong: Love my Genelecs. But 8040s really represents the minimum size any monitors should be - even if you monitor within a closed closet.

You do pay a premium to have that name on your monitors. I recon that the amount you pay for the brand is more or less the same no matter the total amount - thus: if you buy their smallest monitors (cheapest) then the relative amount (out of the total amount) going to "actual monitor" is the smallest.

Okay, thanks for elaborating.

The 1029a's I have, don't have much of a low end. I don't know about the 8020's...I imagine they're similar. I have the 1091a sub though. The original poster may well be better off with alternatives if they can't afford the sub also.
