No show for guestlist
Is it really such a big deal when you ask for guestlist and you don't show up?
I've always wondered. Thanks.

guestlist is a privilege that shouldnt be abused! if you are certain you are going then add yourself. its not one of those things that people use as a "just incase" senario!
remember, promoters get paid per head! if you have no intension of going and add yourself you are taking $$$ away from the promoters pocket! if this trend happens then im sure they will black list you and not even bother adding you

It really depends on the club, and how they do guestlist. I can only speak for what I do at Sonic, but yeah - if you are on the glist and can not attend, i always appreciate the heads up. It gives me an opportunity to fill that spot with someone actually wanting to go.

i know promoters who will add those who have abused the system on reduced vs. free entry!

because promoters usually get paid per head! so if you have no intension of going and have yourself added and dont show then that spot could have been given to someone who wanted to go but couldnt get on because all available spots were reserved.

While I agree that it would be the polite thing to do to give a promoter heads up if you're not going to the party any more, guestlists in Toronto are hardly a "privilege". They are a way for clubs to account for which promoters are bringing in who and how many patrons they're bringing in. Clubbers don't really benefit from the guestlist at all. The "regular" price is an inflated price to encourage people to put themselves on a guestlist. I would anticipate that at many clubs, more people are on a guestlist than not.

exactly.
very few clubs run a true "guestlist" or "VIP" list anymore.
Fly used to do it well...there would be 100+ people in line (at least) on a saturday night and an empty VIP/guestlist. And god help you if you tried to go up to try to get in if you were not on that list. Your ass would be embarassed and you could hang your head in shame as you walked by all 200 people to the back of the line, lol.
And when you were on the list (which meant actually knowing an employee or DJ as opposed to clicking on some online link) you were greated with a smile, sometimes given a drink ticket or two, and given FREE entrance...none of this $5 off bullshit.
I'm not complaining...something is better than nothing, I suppose, and I appreciate our TA promoters...but I kind of laugh at the term "VIP line" or "guestlist". The regular line at system, for $5 more unless you were on a "real" list, was often faster and worth the extra $$$ to get in more quickly.

It's usually the comp'd spots that are limited - whereas a ton of reduced are allowed given that the cutoff time for it's use is often early - objective being to get you into the club early so that the cover savings are offset at the bar.
Years ago before the net was popular things were a little different - there were fewer guestlists and it actually took effort to get on those that were around (by knowing promoters or calling clubs) - now someone can call themselves a promoter by going online, posting a message and an 'email me for guestlist' link - the less motivated will then sit on their ass all week knowing they don't really have to do much to get new heads inside the club as long as their base #s are maintained.

Depends on the club, back in the days System did have the comission format. With the clubs I work at and some others in the city, there's no comission at all. It's pretty bad if you pull the no show all the time, b/c for a major event, g list so limited ... your wasting a space, which someone could of needed. Reduced cover of $5.00 - $20.00 or comp passes, makes a major diff from some ppl.
