Def Tactical - Driven By Elements/Bloodlock [Reflexion/Basic Beat Recordings]
Hi there.
Our release "Driven By Elements/Bloodlock" is out now on TrackItDown Audiojelly Beatport
It has been given a nice review on Trance.nu I will copy/paste it here :
This little gem has been out for a few weeks now but it is still worth checking. Produced by Anton ‘Def’ Kordic, 21, from Bosnia-Herzgovena and Ervin ‘Tactical’ Orbando, 26, from the US, they meet through an online message board. Overcoming the difficulties of this long distance relationship they have managed to create a number of fresh and unique productions that, as well as being strongly supported by the online community, have also made it into the record boxes of DJs such as M.I.K.E., John Askew, Valentino Kanzyani and Pulser. Askew loves Driven By Elements so much he has created his own bootleg of it mixed with Stoneface & Terminal’s Venus.
Energetic, genre-straddling tech-trance is the name of the game here. On Driven By Elements there is a very short sixteen bar percussive intro leading to a fist mini-break where a series of blips and a bell sound introduce the growling bass line and aggressive percussion. Increasing the frequency of the bell sounds (I have to admit I adore bell sounds in tracks – and it works a treat hear) picks up the pace before the bass and beat drop out for eight bars introducing a sweet simple synth keys. Combined with the other elements this gives the production a lush, uplifting atmosphere with great drive. With the percussive elements dropping out, the ‘blips’ re-appear in the break followed by a sharp, high-pitched melody. This, in my opinion, is the weakest part of the track but it is quickly joined by a rawer, dirtier synth that takes the edge off it and works brilliantly once joined by the bass and percussion. Along with the bells and the well selected key sounds results in a powerful, and refreshingly different production with both raw power contrasted with uplifting sounds.
Bloodlock immediately establishes itself with some strong and complex percussion before a hyperactive bass line kicks in. The track is given excellent push and drive by a well-chosen old skool style organ synth line. The relentless pace is kept up throughout the track, with no real break to speak of. Full, atmospheric pads give the tune more of a dreamy feel creating, although without much variation this works to its advantage resulting in another exuberant and powerful track.
Conclusion
Both of these tracks represent what a fresh and different perspective other countries can offer to the trance sound. Eastern-European always seem to bring out productions that can offer something new to the scene and teaming this with a producer from the US, to whom Trance is still a fairly new concept for them, has resulted in two exciting and original tracks, both with great power, drive and raw energy combined with standard trance influences. Driven By Elements is a great peak-time tech-trancer while Bloodlock has a certain charm too and would work well as a warm up track for a harder set or just to throw in to keep your set moving and flowing and a fast pace.
