Trance is confusing me.

ok here's the deal, i'm not sure if i like trance anymore or not. Sometimes when i'm listening to random trance stuff (sets, seperate tracks, whatever) i seem to get quite bored. But other times i'll really enjoy myself and be moving in my chair. I went to Ultra Spin 11 a few weeks back and i was loving the music, but then i listened to the same tracks at home the next day and it was pretty lame. Do time of day, mood, sunlight, crowd, vibe, volume, etc effect trance music? Or is it just simply me getting bored of trance, or is trance just boring in general?

Your probably growing out of it. Your best bet is to get into something else for a while...perhaps progressive house, more traditional house music, techno, ambient or downtempo, whatever, but it definitely sounds like your interest is waning. But it could come back someday. I know with me, I go through times when I really like listening to trance, other times I get bored with it and listen to other music. I find the best time to listen to trance is at night though.

surprised no one has mentioned it... yes it does definitely make a difference listening to tracks at home vs at a show. Things like a loud and well tuned club system plus a good vibe and energetic crowd make a very big difference. Not to mention if you're drunk vs sober etc. Take Sasha for example. Anyone with their head screwed on straight knows the difference between listening to one of his sets at home vs listening to it on a big club system is huge. This also provides a challenge to djs.. making it very common for less experienced djs to overlook great tracks because it didn't sound that special listening through headphones or on your home stereo.

try to stay without trance for 2 weeks. If you can do that, you are a Hip Hop Artist.

do yourself a favour and dont force it. if you think trance is getting boring you can easily stop listening. music is relative, i think trance is exciting. scratch that, not exciting but beautiful. music doesnt have to be exciting.
