Anyone risking Oakie at Mansion this weekend?

I've gotta admit, I've always wanted to see him live, just because it's him, and also because I can't bring myself to think he's gone down as bad as he has in terms of mixing and sets in general. I've gotta see from myself. Anyone else going?

Why can't people spin some '99 essential mix quality stuff damnit... bah. Yes, synths and samples have gotten better but where is the feeling? I think I will always go see him though just for what he was, although I have had to lower my expectations in recent years. Maybe he will surprise me. I mean creamfields was decent...a lot better than bunkka or whatever. I want live @ shadow lounge though... I refuse to believe that the trance scene is downhill from there.

What has he been playing lately is the important question? Last time I saw him was @ Space with Hernan Cataneo over a year ago. That night Oakie started off trancy and melodic and then ended up banging out super hard progressive house and even some breaks.

With Fanciulli being @ Space, this will be a gametime decision.

Yea but "Faster Kill Pussycat"...Eh I'm a fan of brittney murphy's acting, not so much her voice. He was pissed last year at ultra through...Morillo did a good busting the speakers for him, he came through at the end of his set, but he was clearly not happy with the sound tech guys. Wonder if they even sign him this year...

Eh...damn. About 45-60 min of some pretty good tracks and the rest was ... terrible. It seemed like he was trying to cater to some mainstream audience or something with some dancy shit. Man is a shadow of his former self.

Well i disagree. While Oakenfold was never the great "mixer", what he did have was track selection. He always seemed to be ahead of the curve...mainly b/c he had created such a name and became such a power, that he had his pick before the other djs, and was the first to play alot of tracks that just became HUGE. Yes his heyday was mid to late 90s...then started to fall...ironically, just as he became a "NAME" in the United States.

As far as yesterday, i was satisfied. It was (i can't believe it) my first time to Mansion...usually i'm downtown for clubs. WOW!!! I was very impressed--just a FANTASTIC venue. Ridiculous lighting, sound...and of course....crowd! The whole VIP thing in the middle of the club prety much blows (unless you're in there)...haha. BUT hearing him drop some CLASSICS just made my night. I had a blast, and can't wait to make it back to Mansion again.

My friends were in Miami for the weekend. They said there was no dance floor in Mansion. Is that true?

Be Cool!

Not a typical dance floor no. I thought they'd remove some of the VIP area for such big name dj's they had coming in the last month and a half or so, but i guess money talks---and the VIP was packed. Yea i don't care for that myself....because if you were not in VIP, you kind of were forced to hang around the perimeter...yea you can dance, but it kind of takes you out from the "prime" area---which i guess is what Mansion is going for forcing everyone to book VIP bottle service. I was still really impressed---tons of money dumped into this place....to me....just an incredible venue. The lighting is awesome. MUCH different than Space---a nice change for me.

Yea, GREECE 2000---what a highlight!

That alone made it pretty much worth it.

The setup does suck though. If you're in the VIP area its amazing but if not, you're sorta stuck around the edge.
