Are yank movies hard to understand for brits?

I find I need to turn on subtitles for some brit movies (ex: LSATSB, Trainspotting, L4YERCAKE, etc.)

Are any US movies just as hard to understand for brits?

of course not. the difference is the rest of the world is subjected to american popular culture all the time, so we're used to it. btw, movies like trainspotting do include some very strong accents. even your southerners arent that hard to understand

I know, I know. We're our modern-day Roman Empire, yada yada yada...

aren't you a xenophobe.

p.s. we all love Bush and want to dominate the world. And the only thing better than McDonnalds in every neighborhood of the world is two or three McDee's in that mofo.

for the record: I hate being called "American" for the last 6 and next 2 years. I wear my "I <3 Canada" tee whenever I travel overseas.

Sometimes I get lost on some American brand names when mentioned in films. But thats it.

But to confuse us with film plots there would have to be some intelligent films made in America first................only kiddin

+1 most English speakers are used to hearing American Accents. It's driven largely by demand so this has litle to do with American Imperialism etc IMO.

I find most accents pretty easy to understand, except for really hardcore Scottish like in The Acid House. I find it funny when I occasionally see subtitles in American interviews of people with Australian accents.

i think is more difficult the other way around, since most of the "pop culture" references made in yanks movies are usually widespread and "global" to say the least, while the brit movies have all this obscure reference and dark humor making it more difficult not even to yanks for other countries too
