being from windsor you should know the cultural relevence. Im assuming that the song tributes detroit because without detroit there would be no techno sound at all. Detroit (and windsor) were the pioneer cities for techno and dance music as we know it today.

Chicago and New York blended the hard beats of detroit into the garage that they were producing and from it came the music that we now call house music.

So when fedde legrand says put your hands up for detroit, i can only assume hes saluting house and techno music in general.
