Is it possible....

to only be half OCD? I really think I am. But if you ever saw my desk or the way my mind works, you would think I am the LAST person with OCD. Craig had it bad. His side of the closet was perfectly organized, everything was always filed away properly and nice and neat, and my shit was (and still is) always everywhere. I have piles on my desk, but I know where everything is in those piles. But when it comes to really weird, little things, I am completely OCD. For example, I just realized that no matter how much in a hurry I am at work, I can never do something like staple 2 papers together sloppily. I have to line up the corners perfectly. And just now I was faxing something to this place and I had written the name of the place down on the line where you’re supposed to, but it was crooked and not all the way on the line, so I had to white it out and re-write it. That’s kind of OCD right?

Shockingly I'm the exact same way. Most of my personal shit is strewn about all over the place, organized chaos I guess. But when I do shit at work or write stuff out it has to be perfectly alligned.

Creepy.

It means your a perfectionist when it comes to some of the things you work on. I think that people who actually have OCD would roll their eyes at this - its a crippling disease.

I have to write and erase each sentence 3 times before I can move on to the next one.

there are degrees of disorders, licensed psychologists make the call on what constitutes a disorder and what can be considered normal.

you are not normal.

I wasnt responding to you, but I think it still holds. Talk to me about getting in and out of the shower 23 times before you can turn the water on and then I might have a different opinion.

No that's not really OCD. It's a particularly pronounced attention to certain details - a part of your personality, but not a disorder. Someone with OCD would white it out, re-write it, then white it out again, re-write it, white it out again, re-write it, white it out again, then re-write it... you get the point

haha

and u know what pisses me off?

when i open up the mail and there's like a medical report on one of our clients or something, and the way they folded it up and put it in the envelope is like a fucking retard did it. it's like how hard is it to nicely allign the edges and make it fit perfectly in the envelope?

that's another thing i'm OCD about...folding up papers to put in envelopes.

Again, theres a difference between being obsessive compulsive and just taking a lot of pride in the things youre working on.

The way you can tell the difference is that you can force yourself to not fold something properly. If you said, "Okay Im going to prove that Im not controlled by this piece of paper, so Im going to fold it/staple it a little crooked," you probably could. People who are obsessive compulsive are just that - compulsive. They cant control what they do, even if they try.

I can't drink out of a canned beverage (soda/beer) unless I tap on the tab of it exactly seven times and open it. I won't let anyone else open it for me.

I'm weird, but I don't have a disorder.

I think.

I got upset at one of my friends once for writing in the margin on one of my hand-written study guides. I'm very meticulous when it comes to handwritten materials and his little diagram totally destroyed the aesthetics of my study guide. From then on it became a joke with him and he would intentionally destroy any of my neatly written materials with a quick swipe of his pen. Damn you Rob Turner!!!

But I miss that guy, one of the best kids ever.
