Music production software

I am sure that there are a million threads out there that cover this, but I will ask anyway. I have thought about attempting to produce a couple of my own tracks. I have some musical education, meaning I can read music and have had some lessons in guitar. But to write music, I think, would be very difficult. I know that there are a million application out there that you can use to create music. But what would you say is the most user friendly to someone that is not a music major. I would prefer something where I didn't have to use a MIDI device, but I won't get too picky if the best apps require them.

What do you use and would you use it over all others?

Oh, and to beat Packer, dick head Zild/Jake, Matt, Dirk, Dave, That idiot Tweek and Corey, shut the hell up and answer the question.

The only way I can answer this is that the 'most user friendly' products are the ones with limited capabilities. This is subjective, as everyone has their own preference based on what their goals are in production.

I personally use Sonar for mixdown and mastering, using plug-ins from the waves diamond dx/vst bundle. The only reason I would choice to use mine over the others is because its what I have the most experience in using. I'm sure if I was educated in the others I would use them instead..time will tell.

My 0.02. Hope this helped.

I'd start off with Ableton.

Can you perform music composition though? Or is Sonar better for mix production and effects only?

I'm cheap and don't like spending money on the corp. products like Abelton Live, Reason,
Fruity Loops,Cubase

The list goes on and on, and once you buy one of these products you'll get addicted to VSTi which will cost you another arm and by the timeyou have all the software you have spent nearly a grand or more. . .

So if you are cheap like me please check out a thread I wrote on the Production STudio Forum

Ummmm I prefer Fruity Loops or now FL Studio's. I think its the easiest to understand, and wicked powerful. Other than that, the only other program I even touch is Reason 3.0

Just my 0.2, but it is always what you make of the software you have.

peace
