If there is one thing I have learned during my short time here, it's that a good DJ keeps his sets fresh with new music. I've come across a lot of songs that I don't recognize and I feel like I should, so I was wondering how you become familiar with so many tracks and mixes?
Right now I listen to Trance Around the World and A State of Trance every week but I'd like to know some more sources to hear more music.

also a run to ur local record shop doesnt hurt.. today i went there and found a couple of songs that i enjoyed that i dont think i would of found on download sites.
as for mixes, they are found all over the internet mate.

Basically, what I listen to throughout the week...
- Soma.FM (Groove Salad, and occasionally the Drone Zone), Proton Radio and Bass Drive
- Browse most of the new releases of the day on Beatport in the Minimal, Prog & Tech House sections, once or twice a week I'll browse Techno, Electronica and DJ Tools
- Digweed's Kiss 100 sets (although lately he's been picking up tunes that I've had since April)
- Other various tunes/sets that seem to be "all the rage" or that get recommended to me
Yeah... Pretty much it.

There is not a record store even remotely close to where I got to college :\ but I'm checking out beatport and I like what I hear.

I listen to Dance Department every week. But aside from that... I just log into the server and get whatever has an appealing name or whatever has a high ranking. That's how I get the shit in advanced. It's a private server. Then I also browse all the genres at Beatport.

I stopped bothering 2 years ago. It just started to feel like a huge waste of time.
How about exposing yourself to OLD music? I downloaded masses of sets over the last couple of years through the torrents & not really listened to all of them before so I sneaked them in to work (gotta love flash drives ) & listen to them throughout the day. Sure beats putting up with crap local commercial radio stations I usually have to suffer & I've picked up plenty of cracking tracks I'd otherwise have missed Bonus feature: because they're not brand spangly new promos most of them have now been released & are cheaper to buy

Here is how I try to keep up:
1)Electronic music stations on I-Tunes.
2)Download Music Sites (New Releases)
3)Satilite Radio
4)Buying New Mixes From Top Djs (You can learn alot about producers that you never heard of this way and follow them)
5)Downloading Mixes From The DJ Promotion Forum
6)And Just Doing Research On Electronic Music Related Sites And Record Label Sites. Always Check Out The Links On These Record Label Sites Because They Could Lead You To That Killer Tune That Will Put A Tear In Your Eye.
pick an artist. check his latest releases. check who remixed it. check their releases. check the labels these are on. check their releases. look at the bio's for the artists. see what groups their in, collabs they work on, labels they own... and check their releases.
