Herb Alpert is a legend. You guys might recognize two of his tracks "Rise" and "Route 101". They were pretty mainstream in the contemporary jazz world. In fact, the beat from “Rise” was sampled by Biggie Smalls for his track called “Hypnotized”. “Route 101” needs no introduction. Listen to those 2 track when you get the chance. Alpert also owned A&M records which stood for Alpert & Moss, his business partner. A&M, believe or not, was the largest independently owned label in the world until he sold it to Polygram in 1990.
