"Unpredictable" Mixing

I think I am at the point where I can take two songs, and blend them together seemlessly like they are meant to be together. Beatmatching is almost perfect, and I can have elements from both tracks playing live for a long period of time before switching to the next song.

However, I've had one person say my mixing is "predictible", and I think i can see where he is coming from... as seemless as my mixes may be, if you're paying attn, you kinda know the next track is coming...

What are some ways to make a set more "unpredictable"???

edit: and i should clarify he wasn't talking about song selection.

Play with the eq's, try mixing in at different parts of the track. To be quite honest, only the djs that get really technical dont have predictable mixing. I think 99% of people in a club wouldnt be able to predict your mixing, only people with a trained ear could predict it. I Wouldnt worry about it if I was you.

i find its not always bad to be predictable. but you can try layering more tracks than you normally do. Or bring the next track at parts of the current track before you mix it in, like play the vocals, or let the bassline play for a bit.

Yes, you have beat-matching down which sets the scene for experimenting a little, from the sounds of it you might also be able to switch from one track to anther aswell, not unheard of, but you'd need the right tracks that meld together more than usual.

Thanks everyone for the replies... I'll give some time to doing a little bit of experimentation with EQ's, the faders and such for future mixes.

I assume you mean something like a quick cut from one track to another?
