Any setup pretty much will do the job, as long as there is some kind of aux input on the back.
The best thing to do though, is go down to your local second-hand electronics store and have a root through there. I built my system from one of those places, and I got a 55 watt/channel RMS Sherwood amp for £50 (about $65), a Technics auto tape deck for £30, a Pioneer tuner for £25 and a Denon CD player for £75, and a pair of Goodmans 50W RMS speakers for £20. That makes... *loads up Windows calculator* ... £200. For a really good quality separates system. I actually spent a bit a bit more than that, because I bought some decent speaker cables and phono cables to go with it, but you will certainly end up with a really nice quality, loud home system for well under £250.
