You're probably gonna get different answers from everyone, but I usually turn up the hi's when I'm beatmatching in my headphones, as loud as I need to to hear something defined. That usually does it for me. When I started I tried to match the lows but quickly learned that isn't the way to go (for me at least). I feel like most non chillout/ambient tracks have some sort of defined hi at some point in the track, so if it's not clear in the begining you might have to scan further in until you get something discernable.

When I am beatmatching I totally kill the lows. It seems like you can hear everything else in the track alot better that way. Seems like the lows drown out alot of the track when you are trying to beatmatch with them turned up. Just how I do it, there is no right or wrong way I guess. But when I am bringing the track in, I will have the lows up a bit and make minor adjustments then.

Rock On,

Mike

try not to rely on frequencies (highs, lows) when beatmatching, try to match the tempo.. comes with practice i guess, so keep practicing

I just use the main beat (is this what people call the kick?) to beatmatch I can beatmatch the cued track through a breakdown of the live track as you can still hear the phrases even though theres no beats playing. For that I just release the cued track at the start of a phrase on the live track & adjust the pitch accordingly at the end of the phrase.

I couldn't beatmatch by killing the lows or just using the hi's so this thread is another eye opener for me - I guess thats what comes from me havin to rely on the interweb for ideas & hearing how others do stuff!

Soz if I've misunderstood.
