This evening my external usb drive started working oddly.
Some folders were showing up empty when I knew they contained files ...

Reboot pc and now it's impossible for me to get the drive to work.
Each time I plug it in I get an unknown device error... I checked device instance id and it's all 0's so yeah ... not recognized at all :S


I tried it on my laptop and the drive appears to be fine .... it's only on my pc that something is fudging up...


I tried uninstalling the usb root hub and pci to usb host controller and no change....


what shall I do?



I'm on WinXp pro Sp2

I had this same problem and it turned out my USB port wasnt getting enough power to read my external properly. Did you tr another device in the USB port?

wtf I was siding with a power problem and you were right....

I can't get a stupid memory card reader to work either!

oh geez this is bad ....



btw only thing working without any problems is the usb mouse ....
