Don't leave your car parked on Adelaide/Richmond after 2am on Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun nights!
I hadn't parked my car on either of those streets recently but in the past years I've parked there more times than I can count. Well, I failed to notice the new 'No Standing 2am-6am FRI-MON' signs that went up. Returning to an empty Richmond street around 3:30am with no parked car in sight was a bit of a surprise.
Apparently these signs were put in some time in late September and City Council put in the by-law to ban parking from 2am-6am on Richmond/Adelaide on June 29. I guess this falls into the other restrictions being put on the area (new liquor licenses/noise on patios/etc.)
While parking signs on the street supercede any display on a parking machine I find it misleading that they didn't bother to change any of the info displays on the machines on Richmond/Adelaide - where most people are staring when they go to pay to park. Considering the highest concentration of use on those streets is between Friday and Monday you'd figure our city council would actually not try to rip off the people who elected them (ya right).
Now for the Tow yard drama:
Took a cab over to A Towing by ACC and there were a few people there that had the same thing happen. Gotta love a $60 ticket and $112 towing fee. So, turns out that earlier in the night someone freaked out over getting towed and they smashed A Towing's interac/CC machine so now I could only pay CASH. This other guy was waiting to pay but didn't have enough cash and was pissed off he couldn't pay with CC - so while arguing with the woman at the desk I guess his friend ran in and got into his car and was going to drive it out. The Towing people closed the gate and blocked it - but the guy just drove his car right up to the gate and wasn't letting any other people/cars leave (who had already paid their tow) -- this continued until the cops showed up and forced him to move his car.

Don't you just love bureaucracy?

getting towed is awful...
I was towed once from the CN tower, as I came back from dropping dinner to my girlfriend (at the time)who worked there, my car was gone. I managed to flag down a tow truck and asked him where cars go when they are towed.
It turns out he was the guy who had just towed mine...and he drove me to the lot with another car hooked on the back. It was quite the conversation on the drive.
I recall that being the definition of awkward.
FYI never park your car on Yonge street anywhere between 401 and Finch during rush hour...they tow religiously.

they do this all the time... no standing between 2am and 6am? i guess they really dont want people downtown eh?
its decoding parking signs like that and the parking fine cottage industry along with traffic that prevents me from coming downtown unless i have to.
How is anyone supposed to read a wall of regulations like that? Imagine the poor tourist suckers that come here!

It's all done on purpose to confuse the fuck out of you, make you give up in frustration then tow your car once you're out of sight.

if you ever get towed, go to the towing company and demand for your car back. if they demand that you pay, tell them you are calling the police and reporting that your car was stolen (by the tow company).
you might have a verbal arguement but NO TOW DRIVER can legally tow your car without verbal / written warning being received (and confirmed/receipted) by said owner, and the company, legally, has to give you your car back.
