I've gotten the bug to start producing and would prefer to get actual eqiupment as well as the typical computer software. In regards to the "real" equipment, I was hoping that someone with experience with musical instruments could help give me a sort of blueprint towards compiling a set up which would be capable of creating worthy (however you define that) tracks with as little cost as possible.
And another note I won't be able to purchase any of this eqiupment until next year (next Summer) due to space constraints (living in a small dorm room) so don't be afraid to suggest something pricey as it may come down in price by the time I'm ready to buy.

I swear by my Access Virus B. Version C will be out by the time you're ready to buy. Yamaha samplers rule - best bang for your buck. A great starter synth is the old Roland Juno 106. Pretty cheap, easy to use, and a nice analog sound.
