DJ equipment advice needed please

Can any DJs out there give a list of some essential/ affordable equipment? CDJ's, mixers, speakers, headphones etc...I really appreciate any feedback as I am trying to embark on my own musical journey.

although in a side by side comparison, my 7506's sounded a bit more defined and crisper than j:/digital's v6's

oh, I never compared them side by side but I thought they were the same. That makes sence though, they are a bit more expensive.

i suggest you save up to buy either technics for tt's or pioneer cdj800's for cds (cdj 1000's if you can afford it).

For mixer the pioneer djm 500 is well regarded and widely used, but pick a mixer with nice long upfaders and 3-way eq knobs (also ability to hear both tunes at full volume in both ears in your headphone as opposed to one tune in each ear)

For headphones try either the sony v700 or the pioneers

For speakers any loud and clear will work (good monitors can be expensive)

everyone has their own proference and there are plenty of other quality options available. Check out your local store and play around with it, just make sure your comfortable with your equipment.

Not really.. I paid around $160 or so (can't rememeber exactly) for my V6s and was looking at the 7506s last weekend actually and they were marked at $167..

I paid $55 shipped for my V6's

They were refurbished by Sony. Brand new condition)

And the 7506's standart price is 100 around here (in GC and some other music stores)

no. why on earth would you buy a djm-500 now? that makes no sense at all. there's much better options out there around the same price. also would a&h mixers be a definite no-no as they have 4 band eq?
and also split cue is what many djs prefer to hearing both tracks on both ears.

no. both suck ass and break easily. the only cans i can recommend are the sony mdr-7506 or the mdr-v6 (not the v600)
some sennheisers are good too, i loved my hd280pros until they broke. i've heard that the hd25 (not the sp version) are good, but i prefer circumaural cans, so i didn't even look into them.

i have weak and muddy speakers as "monitors" for my dj gear and can definitely say that good speakers/monitors are pretty important. of course you don't necessarily need monitors as normal speakers might work just as well.

this i definitely agree with. playing around with different gear is very useful if you got the possibilty to do so.

Had to test them out.. I have had my V6's for quite awhile now... however, might have to get new ones (or 7506's) as they were in my lunch bag this week and well, a can of coke exploded all over them... haven;t have a chance to look at them really..
