the thread title is misleading, but I do agree, USA immigrations really sucks. They take a long time, the people there don't know the rules yourself. I've been caught up for ticking the wrong box once when doing exactly what I was told to the time before.
when they finish processing the US citizens, they start pulling foreigners from the back of the line instead of the front, which can really piss you off if you've stood in line for an hour whilst 2 people process arrivals. I can only really comment on LAX and JFK but they both showed the same crap approach |
Thank god I'm not the only one who's had too go through that, for awhile I thought its "just me" and started too take it personally. Ended up packing my crap and ending up in Australia.
But not before being 'terrorised' by the airport security animals who thinking a non-white, five foot stuff all tall yuppie women in $5000 suit armed with nail files and smelly cosmetics are going too hijack the nearest plane and crash it into something important.
Well, I wasnt thinking that before I got too the airport, gave some serious thought too it later sulking in a back room while they ripped my luggage to bits.
"Whats this?"
"A nail file"
"What is this?"
"It's nail polish remover and cosmetics"
"Why do you have it!"
"Umm, I'm a beauty therapist and salesperson for [large cosmetics company]
"Where are you from"
"Says there on the passport"
"So you travelled in the middle east very recently?"
"Well, yes. Arabs buy our stuff too."
"Are you an arab? You look weird."
"No"
"I reckon you are..."
So he runs off and grabs some more of the assorted 82IQ knuckle draggers and thinks he's got himself a gen-u-ine ah-rab t'rrist and they do some background checks on my visa. Well wouldnt you know it, its 3hrs overdue because the monkeys behind the counter at the place too get it extended couldnt work out how too give me a work visa for 24hrs in less time than it takes too launch a moon mission.
Another 3 hours go by as theyre continuing too rip my stuff too bits and x-raying everything, they where really not pleased the company I worked for was French and hence where reluctant too call them too find out why one of their salesmuppets was in the country, so that tacked on an extra 2 hours while they decided that they'd need someone too speak french (heck even I dont speak french) and my flight is somewhere long gone.
At least I wasnt 'cavity' searched, threatened with it a few times and bombed with enough x-rays and other stuff so I'd have a healthy green glow, think my kids will probably come out with an extra head or something as a result.
But no, after they did figure out I'm just some dumb, tired and now very, very cranky person who's missed their connecting flight back home. I rarely swear and told them too f-off which didnt endear me anymore too them and got plonked down in departure under close scruitany for another 5hours while my flight roster was updated.
By and large most Americans are easy enough going, I wouldnt so much call them rude but they are sometimes hopelessly naive when it comes too dealing with someone who's not from their country.
