Minaya-State of Muzik Oct. SVD, Cicada, Wisternoff, Henrik B

Back again with the S.O.M. for October. Sorry for being a bit late but with all the work I put into Twilight and playing out last month/Monster Massive I barely found time to make sure I got all the tracks I really wanted for this mix.

I started off with a beautiful ambient song titled Rivers of Sand by Fennesz. I first heard this on James Holdens mix cd At the Controls (A cd I highly recommend). I thought it would be nice to add this instead of jumping right into the mix.

Up next is a remix of an older track from Cassandra Fox/Rui Da Silva titled Touch Me. It was on Tiesto’s ISOS 2 cd and is using this version now heavily among others like Armin van Buuren and Markus Schulz. If you were at Monster Massive you heard Armin open with this and make the same transition into the next song.

Easily one of the best songs ive heard live in quite sometime. Black is the Colour is nothing but pure energy and I get a huge kick playing this song and cant wait to use it in front of an audience just to see the reaction.

Moving onto another track along the same vein of Black is the Colour. Its the Dirty South Remix of Cicada's Things You Say and what a great track this is. A beautiful breakdown and melody accompanied by a dirty bassline and kick to make sure it gets people moving. Another song I cant wait to use live and a big favorite of mine at the moment I hope you have fun listening to it.

Next is a great track by Henrik B titled Overrun. I stumbled upon just going through beatport and was very happy to come across such a great song.

If you listened to Twilight you would know this track. 1/2 of the great Way Out West duo Jody Wisternoff proves his own in this great progressive house song. It has trance elements but an electro house structure and groove to it that makes it such a beautiful track. This time around its used a bit earlier though to make sure the energy in the mix doesn’t slow down just yet.

Finally getting back into the progressive trance swing of things are two of my favorite producers Niklas Harding and Funabashi teaming up to create a melancholic guitar driven track titled Addictive. Its name says it all one listen and you cant stop = ) I was ecstatic to hear they were working together and the outcome couldn’t have been any better. You can hear both influences strongly if your familiar with their work and it meshes unbelievably well. If I had a song of the month this would be it without a doubt.

Following is a rock driven remix of Ronski Speed's The Space We Are. John O'Callaghan on remix duties breathing a huge amount of life into this track. Playing this live would probably make you feel like a rockstar if you insert it at just the right time hehe ^^ Great guitar in this track by the way.

I was recently listening to Tiesto's old Nyana mix for fun while driving to a friends house and realized how many great tracks were in those cds I had completely forgotten about. Although it might sound a little out of place at first this track calms things down before exploding during the breakdown. Tom Mangan Chutney (Size 9 Interpretation) gets the job done here and expect a full on rework of this track soon by myself = )

If you know me I love nothing better then a non electronic song getting a proper remix. Although I do still prefer Karl G's mix because it sticks more to the original I believe this version suits the mix better and the direction I was taking it in. Sander Van Doorn is known for bringing insane amounts of energy and kick to a track and this remix of Arctic Monkeys When the Sun Goes Down is no exception. It falls into an acoustic breakdown but don’t be fooled Sander has a heavy kick and bassline waiting for it. Seriously this track changes gears quick haha

At this point I realize how I really had no melodic trance so far and decided that since it was getting close to the end I should calm things down a bit instead of abruptly ending it with high energy tracks. This is one beautiful track I must say. If you remember and liked the fantastic Amsterdam by Luminary then you love Dark Eyes and Funabashi under his guise Tom Porcell mix. Nothing but pure beauty here and I cant exaggerate that enough = )

And to end the electronic tip of things I decided to use a song that Markus Schulz not only remixed himself with Elevation but he also played this at Monster Massive and It was just perfect. This remix for Nalin and Kane's Open Your Eyes is incredible as it is soothing.

Everyone should know that I love ending things off with something different. Armin recently did a remix for Racoons Love You More single. Although a great effort I don’t think he really used it to its potential. So instead of offering the remix I offer you the original an acoustic ballad that’s just great and uplifting.

Links in the title I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did mixing it <3

absolutely beautiful.

the intro track is such a fucking mesmerizing way to start. I'm worried the casual listener will find it a bit drawn out. but I personally loved it. beautiful transition into Touch Me. i really haven't overheard that track like i think i would have so it is impressive and very well placed imo.

incredible contrast into Black is the Colour. I f-ing love it when dj's try and mix it up like that. as you say Armin did it first so have to give him credit.

great choice with Things You Say. LOVE THAT TRACK!! Can't get enough of it really. blends well as well.

flow breaks a bit at this point, but as I listen it seems appropriate. sort of a valley here into Nostalgia. LOVE Nostalgia. sick track man, where do you get these wonderful toys.

Addictive. Yes, this song is the shit. the transition seems a bit empty but i'm excited for the track. seems like your making a transition in the mix here.

next track is a bit of a disappointment. i was expecting a flow towards more trancey stuff. but still this track rolls nicely.

the next track really shows the colours of your mix. it's a strange, pulsing interlode which takes you to another state. very lovely place you take us on this journey. Sun Goes Down remix by Sander van Doorn is quite the new experience. very, very awesome.

After that is a bit of a severed feeling. love the remix by Funabashi of Dark Eyes. Can't emphasize more how I LOVE IT. So well done.

Interesting closing run with Open Your Eyes remix and the bare Love You More track by Racoon. an obvious downslope of energy but effective non-the less.

To summarize: your style is particular, acquired and eclectic. the casual listener will not appreciate the journey you take i don't think, but then again...

In my opinion your style and this mix particular has hit home with me. not a perfect flow, or even track selection. but your confidence in your choice, your attention to experience, and your unique selection have given me a real enjoyable experience and refreshment i was looking for.

Thanks,

The Metatron.

I agree with Metatron on this one. It's beautiful. Nice arrangement of tracks.

Because I wasn't expecting that style of music for the last track I was a bit surprised (I had forgotten about the TL when I first played the mix and didn't bother to check it while listening). I had to check the player to make sure it hadn't opened another MP3 to play. Good track.

There's no use talking about each individual track since you already gave your thoughts on it. Good job on that.

The tracks I'm liking the most off of this mix are Rivers of Sand, Addictive and Nostalgia. For some reason I am a bit more obsessed with the tracks DJs open their sets with. I don't disregard those mixes with what I consider bad opening tracks but I certainly appreciate those with nice ones. The tone in Nostalgia is soothing. It is exceptionally done, as was Addictive.

Thanks for the mix.
