Dancing Dude REVIEW: 2006.11.24. "Versus" @ Pur w/Jeff Button, Irgo and more

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present the offical review thread for Versus at Pur on Nov. 24, 2006.

As I've noticed before, the place was a little slow filling up. There seemed to be some technical challenges as the night started out, but they were quickly resolved. Soon enough, the joint was packed. Seemed like a pretty good crowd (from what I can recall...things are a little foggy), and the removal of the 'VIP' section (!) opened up the floor a little. The lighting was much better this time around as well.

Jeff, as always you rocked the house. For a few minutes there, I thought the universe was going to collapse in on itself. Great, great tunes and really well put together. Nice.

Matt, I was really impressed with the tracks you put together. Now, I don't mean the order or the mix - which were good also - I mean the tracks you created. Well done, keep 'em coming.

All in all, I'd say it was a good night out. The location of the decks this time makes much more sense (thanks Nicola), and I think it helped the feel in the room to be able to see the guys in action.

Oh - Dimitri told me that Pur will soon be going after hours (until around 6am). Thought I'd put that out there...

Cheers!

adding on...

Figured I'd throw my two cents in here too that i threw on houseaddict...mine is very similar to Dr. Das's...

Dog nabbit, I forgot my camera!! I was SO hoping to get some pictures so people could get an idea of what the place looks like.

I have to say, GREAT improvements to this venue:

1. The DJ Booth

The booth looks GREAT. It's out from under the stairs, and the ceramic-tiled in look matches the ambiance nicely. It is so much better to SEE the DJ! When the DJ was under the stairs, it looked like someone was back there cooking. Just way too isolated. now that the booth is out in the open, fan-freakin'-tastic.

2. Lighting

I found that the first time I went there, the venue was quite bright; well, dim track lighting has been installed with coloured light-runners...the result is fantastic, the low lighting (blue in tint) contributes to a very relaxing, hip ambiance.

3. Sound

They moved the subs to the main dance area from the back. GREAT idea. That's where they should be!! I know that they are still ironing out glitches in the system due to a new setup, but i have to say that Irgz rolled with the punches and the night turned out great.

I wasn't there too long, and managed to only catch 20 mins of Jeff's set but still had a great time, and was happy to be out to chill and have a drink with all the other house music lovers out there.

Verdict...started out a little shaky, but formed up nicely with a great crowd and good tunes.

Irgo--i know you're putting a lot of effort into this event--and it shows. Great Friday evening venue, I encourage everyone to hit it up for a social/dance time, perhaps before hitting the afterhours clubs.

Another great Friday!

Started a bit more loungey this week but Jeff wasted no time in kicking us into touch. I swear that boy gets better every time - campaign to get him opening for Sean, that's what we should do.

Venue improvements were ace and I am proud to say PUR will continue to be my Friday night home.

Highlights of hilarity once again;

Holy fuck, my tummy still hurts!!

Yeah, it was a nice little place. I especially loved all the aquariums, I pretty much just stared at the fish the whole time I was there. I didn't stay long, I left with ni-cd but I would go again for sure. The place had a nice feel to it and unlike most clubs I've been to was suitable for chatting to people. Not that I spoke to anyone really, it usually takes me a couple of hours to warm up for social discourse and we were at Footwork by then. That and the distraction of the fish.

Lol, I saw him too. I actually feel bad for the poor little guy, he's in a tank with a clarkii clown (the yellow and black Nemo looking one), you shouldn't mix clownfish I've been told, they usually fight. Nemo, being smaller, will get the worst of it. They seemed fine when I saw them though. They had another tank with multiple tangs, another no-no so they say and they were all behaving too. Sometimes the rules don't apply.

Sorry, I'm geeking out about fish on the wrong forum again.

Thanks guys, another great night indeed.

It was so much better to be able to interact with the crowd, and not have a white wall inches away from my face! lol. Definitely improved on the one thing that was holding this venue back from greatness.

Wicked vibe, great friends, and a few too many beers...

I won't be able to make it next week for Rampant's night as I am heading off to Cancun with the Mrs.... boys, give'r shit!

Another great night out!!

The place is really coming together. After a rocky start with the soundsystem, things got ironed out and we enjoyed some wicked tunes.

The dj booth out on the floor was fantastic. Love to be able to see who's making me dance!!!

Reaffirmed that this is the place to be on Friday's!!!
