Studio Monitors for make beautiful melodien

Hey guys... I tried a search and couldnt find much on the topic.

Whats a decent pair of monitors that i could get in the $200-500 price range?

I'm looking for active, near field, flat response monitors for... production. (duh? )

I had a look at the alesis m1's but heard they had too much low end.

Suggestions?

Thanks a lot in advance,
will

In my opinion the Alesis M1 mkII do not have an excess of low end.
You really should listen to different monitors yourself. No one can tell you what monitors to buy. I do recommend the Alesis M1 mkII monitors though, they're affordable. Good bang for the buck.
You should listen to them and decide for yourself.

I don't like them.

I found the KRK ROkit series too boomy and will from now on only rely on Event for low end monitors.

ALP5 is the best 5 inch "budget" monitor I've ever heard. Evemt TR-6 and the TR-8 are also fucking KILLER.

Much more balance sound than the similarly priced KRK Rokit line.

I agree, kind of

Alesis sounded absolutely laughable to me. The only way you will get an unbiased mix out of them is by blocking the bass ports...

KRK were my second pick, mainly because theyre the only other semi-respectable ones in that price range haha. The difference between the KRK RP6 and Event TR6 (TR6 is $50AUD more) is like night and day to my ears. KRK were noticeably muffled. I couldnt put my finger on it but they just sounded poor in comparison.

If you're debating between KRK RP6 and Event TR6... get the TR6. Don't even think twice about it.

However, if you're debating between KRK RP5 and Event ALP5... get the RP5. ALP5s sounded horrible to me - ALOT of mid exaggeration, hardly any bass. They are alot clearer than the KRKs, but the KRKs ACTUALLY have bass, which is more important IMO - this is up to your own preference though.

on second thoughts, assuming small room dimensions (bedroom/study) and untreated surfaces, ALP5s are actually a better choice. I'd be afraid to think what KRKs would sound like with some kick ass standing waves :P

I don't know man, I get a nice curve on these, solid bass, not exagerated - I find them more balanced than anyhing- Personally, they work well for me.

As you can see it all comes down to personal preference.

Go to a shop and listen for yourself which ones you like.

Save up more money and buy more expensive ones...something like Mackie, Dynaudio, Genelec, etc...they're the most important part of your setup IMO.
I'd say you'd need to be spending at least 500 pounds (1000$) on a pair of monitors.
