Of Miss USA and the Scarlet Letter
Sometimes I'm shocked to see how America has never really left its Puritan past behind, but is actively living it.
Case in point: The Miss USA saga (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16211347/)
This young woman - who, if you look at her photo in that article, is indeed a woman, as opposed to a girl, who looks several years older than her age - was "guilty" of "partying hard" and drinking alcohol.
Excuse me, but what the fuck? Is there a law that says women should be "good girls" and not party?? She has just turned 21, so even if she drank alcohol, this would have been just a few months before the American law would legally allow it (not to mention that the whole age restriction of 21 is a uniquely American concept that nobody else agrees with, but that's another story).
Equally telling was the media's reaction. She was instantly asked if she was an "alcoholic". How does drinking alcohol equal alcoholism? Why draw this retarded conclusion?
My point is that an adult young woman got reprimanded and rebuked for "partying" and drinking alcohol. Now you tell me, is this a Puritan country or not? What the fuck is some people's (including Donald Trump's) problem?
