[Old School Inspired]Lokhèn - Someday

Something I did for fun.. Tried to do a 99 styled trancer, complete with offbeat bassline and snarerolls.. Don't know if I succeded 100%, but I'm pretty satisfied anyway.. Hope you like it, and merry christmas..

Haha... I love late 90s trance. Some of the best chillout stuff and stadium cheese invented was back then. I have the pleasure of being the first to review this track... here it goes (ah-ah-hem)

Right off the bat I want to comment on how juicy that kick is. It's got that 90s sound to it with a 909 presence with a little juice in the mid frequencies as well.

The bassline is standard off-beat but that doesn't bother me much at all. In fact, it sounds just like the 90s. The supersaws that start buzzing in are fitting as well. Ah the memories that accompany such chills of highhats over saw goodness...

funky little acid bleeps you have going there.

The breakdown with silence is rather cheesy at first. Part of that is the silence itself. In fact, the supersaw sounds will come across to many as cheesy as hell. Some will like it, and others will hate it. Myself, I like it -- not my favorite, but it's harmonically rich.

The climax was okay. The melody isn't a favorite of mine, but it's at least different from the rest of the pack in having a little different of a chording structure. The outro was, well, it worked, I guess...

Not bad... not bad. The last time I remember hearing something from you, it was your "Untitled" track that I still get a real kick out of -- I still have "Untitled" on my mp3 player! Someday somehow left a bit of a bland aftertaste, but I can tell that you captured an oldschool epic feel.

Personally, the oldschool trance that I like is the dark-rave flavor of trance. That was super, especially some of the darker tracks by the likes of Trance[]Control, or even hardtrance stuff from Hermes&Cold, or Space Frog (Though that was more hard trance). Therefore this track was a wee bit of a dissapointment because I tack "OLdschool" trance with that dark-rave sound. You know, that dark-rave stuff that was borderline acid-trance and still melodic at times, but really hard-smacking beats.

Merry CHRISTmas indeed!

"Northern Winds", eh? I'll have to be looking that up. That was a real epic monster.

Oh no, they are not secrets... I wasn't looking for secrets. I just enjoy knowing what goes into what recipe. I personally use FLStudio 6 with one hardware synth and a stack of VSTs like V-Station, Vangaurd, and Octopus, and I don't plan on changing my setup.
