This list frustrates the hell out of me. It isn't that I think these songs are bad, in fact many of them are great, but to me they all stand for the same thing. Most of the singles seem to be a collection of songs with innovative sounds that have a certain "drive", which would own me at any club.
The problem, however, is there seems to be a lack of emotional depth to the vast majority of the songs on the list. White Rooms is a good example of a track that I think accomplishes this, yet still manages to be a track that surely wouldn't bore in the club, thus making it not only a great 2006 track, but one for all time. Audion's Mouth to Mouth is the antithesis of this concept. I feel I don't even need to explain why, the contrast is so strong.
I suppose I am angry because I keep buying mix cd's and singles that seem to have been made for club play. I realize EDM revolves around the club, but there seems to hardly be an effort to market towards the home listener. At home, you need more depth than what is usually brought with these glitchy, minimal/electro/whateverthehell tracks that make up most of this list. While most of the tracks are driving and will get you stomping your foot, their is no poignant depth. I have been a big fan of this genre movement that I can't even name, as it refuses to be classified, but I am growing frustrated. This list, to me, embodies my frustration.
