i program my sets much like i would as if im playin out in a club... i start kinda slow, build my way up throughout the set... i also decide alot of what im gonna play before i even start...depending on the mood i might just play all of one genre or i might start to swtich things up goin between styles tryin to use tracks that are good cross overs...the last time i played i actually got complimented a bunch of times about how well my set was programmed for the night...i was an opener but i got the crowd groovin but i didnt wear them out before the main acts went on and i kinda got everyone in the mood to hear the style the main people were gonna play...

The programming of a set depends on a crowed.
I find if a crowd has a shorter attention span the peak should be earlier where as with a crowed that has a longer attention span and will stick with the breakdowns they may appreciate a longer build up with a bigger peak.

I understand what you mean, but for the most part it's actually been a blessing for me. I don't really program my sets, other than that I like to start out in the low 120's and then move towards 130 as the night progresses. I don't like the idea of going into a set with most or all of it planned out, because it's more about the vibe for me, and inspiration as well. The great part about digital is that I can browse through my collection and 99% of the time something is going to strike me as perfect for the moment.
