Could do what I did when I backed up my HD and copy them all to CD-R or RW (instead of DVD-R) ... it takes a while, and a crapload of discs, but it gets the job done and is well worth it in the end in case something does happen.

I'd say the majority of MP3 collectors lose a big part of their collection at least once in their life. I've gone through it two times all ready...the second time I went out and bought a CD-RW LoL.

OMG

WHY WHY WHY

The only time i lost mp3's was when i accidently deleted 30 of em.. that was back in 99...

So i decided to buy a cheap burner for backing up stuff and also making audio cd's...

So lets c... i burn all my mp3's on CD-R now.. ive got like 20 cd's full of mp3's this way everything is backed up safely...

So why not do the same?

NO. it would be WAAAAAAAAY better to just go buy a separate HDD and copy all of your files and leave it unplugged when you are not backing up.. BU maybe once a month or so and youll be fine. no harm can be done to a HDD when its not 'working' unledd you like magnets..

ahhh its spreading!!!!.... thats true about another HD, i want a external firewire HD damn it. Burning cds seems saver for me than buying zip or jazz drives.

People don't learn!

Especially on a 56k I would back up EVERYTHING......

You know what my hard drive(s) are for? Not to store anything.....just for immediate access to shit I listen/watch frequently.........

CD-Rs are for storing........ You'll be amazed how much better you sleep at night.....
